Nike Grind Surface Lets Young Patients Play Safe

On the third floor of Miami Children’s Hospital, away from exam rooms and doctors, Nike Grind partner, Playtop, recently helped create a new space where children can forget they are patients – and just be kids. The company installed a brand new 100% Nike Grind playground surface that features bright hues and fun shapes designed to offer a feeling of being outdoors.
Hospital staff pushed for a Nike Grind surface after experiencing cleaning and draining issues with the previous floor. Now they have one that is simple to disinfect, and the kids have no trouble crawling and moving their IV poles across the floor while playing. From kicking the soccer ball over “ponds” of orange fish, to playing hopscotch and riding bikes on a street track, patients are loving their new, completely recycled digs.
Playtop used approximately 5,500 pairs of recycled shoes for the playground flooring. The result: a much-needed sense of normalcy and splash of fun for kids in the hospital environment.
