What's New at Reuse-A-Shoe
Two high schools. One rivalry. A whole lotta shoes.
This Friday afternoon, Illinois’ top two high school football teams are bringing it – in more ways than one.
In what is being billed as an instant classic, long-time rivals Maine South Hawks, defending 8A state champs, and Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers, winners of the 2009 7A state championship, will both bring a combo of heart and ridiculous talent as they clash on the gridiron in front of passionate fans and ESPN cameras during the TIGERHAWK game. What’s at stake? The designation as the top football squad in Illinois and bragging rights till the next head-to-head challenge.
As if the competition on the field isn’t heated enough, the Hawks and Tigers are ramping up their rivalry with a Reuse-A-Shoe recycling contest. This week, students at both schools are showing their school pride and excitement for recycling by dropping their beat up kicks in Reuse-A-Shoe bins placed on both campuses. When the game clock on the field runs out, so will the shoe recycling battle.
So what will happen on Friday? Will the Hawks pass for the most yards? Will the Tigers collect the most shoes? No matter the outcome, Reuse-A-Shoe gives both schools mad props for not only playing their hardest on the field, but also for scoring major sustainability points through their recycling efforts.
